Gestalt.in.Design

A few good examples which have Gestalt elements incorporated in them...

SIMILARITY

This comes to play when we put things together into groups when they correspond with each other.

In the above example,  6 groups of white blocks with black lines and 6 groups of black blocks with white lines have been incorporated into this design. This is a good example of similarity since its copies of the same thing that's been depicted in different ways - black & white and rotation.

CLOSURE
CLOSURE

Basic closure is depicted when we close objects that are not yet complete. It's almost like we are predicting what the complete object would look like. We complete the object using our own views.

In the above example one can depict it as a circle. However, it's actually just spikes that have been grouped together. The whole thing is a group of different-sized spikes arranged in such a way that it creates a perception of a circle.

Can you see the invisible circle??

PROXIMITY

When we see a group of objects, we tend to see them as groups. This is called GROUPING.

In the above example, the circles and spots have been grouped together. It's fairly simple, the black spots forming a group while the yellow rows of circles in the background helps form the group. The black spots look the same and they're grouped together.

Notice how the shapes have been grouped together?
What do all of these spots used to depict??

FIGURE & GROUND

Do you see an old man?
Or do you see a woman with a baby, an old man with a hat and a dog lying on the street??

SYMMETRY

Symmetry may be found every where we walk -
even when you take a look at the Taj Mahal in this image below.

Something may be characterized as being symmetrical if it's equal on both sides once it's been split in half.
